What’s with the name – Walk with the Poor?

Great Question.

There are a few parts to the name – "walk with" and "the poor."

"the poor"

Let's start with the poor. When we talk about "the poor," we’re talking about those who lack economic resources. Specifically, we’re talking about those who live in developing countries and lack basic life necessities.

These are bright, talented, hard-working, capable individuals who, because of where they live, lack the resources they need to be able to develop their full potential and use their talents to make the world a better place. To understand this more, read about the problem.

"walk with"

So, what about the "walk with" part? At CFCA, we believe we have a moral responsibility to care for each other, and especially for those in our world who are most vulnerable. We recognize their dignity and what they have to offer the world, and we want to get to know them, and learn from them. When we walk with someone, we listen, we share our hopes and dreams, and we see each other as friends and equals.

We also believe that loving our neighbor extends to loving our international neighbors. We are all interconnected and interdependent in our globalized society. By understanding the lives of our international neighbors more and letting them get to know us, we can live in solidarity – we can walk together.

Wonder where the idea for a walk came from?
CFCA’s co-founder and president, Bob Hentzen, walked from Kansas City to Guatemala to show his support for those living in poverty. Kansas City to Guatemala! That’s over 4,000 miles. Crazy! Watch a short video about his walk.
